New Delhi, India: Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Wednesday that the Government has set a target of building 220 new airports by 2025, citing the Civil Aviation industry as a critical component of India's economy.

In response to the Civil Aviation Ministry's requests for grants for 2022-23, Scindia stated that India has made progress in both domestic and foreign travel during the COVID-19 period. "Cargo flights for perishable food items will be boosted by 30% in the next years, with 133 new flights," he stated.

Scindia stated that the pilot licence will be simplified in the coming days using cutting-edge technologies. He stated that the government intends to build 33 new domestic freight ports, 15 new pilot training schools, more jobs, and a stronger focus on the drone industry. "As a result of this, the government has established a goal of building 220 new airports by 2025," he explained.

In the recent seven days, the minister informed the House that 3.82 lakh passengers travelled by air. He told the House that the Ministry wants to increase passenger throughput from 34.5 million in 2018-19 to 40 million in 2023-24. Scindia stated that 90 flights were dispatched to five nations to evacuate Ukrainian students. Scindia expressed gratitude to the Indian Air Force, which flew 14 sorties and four C17 Globemasters during the evacuation.
