NEW DELHI: In a bid to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the central government will contribute 90% of implementation cost for handholding and consultancy fees, said Union Minister Narayan Rane on Friday, March 10.

After introducing the MSME Competitive (LEAN) Program, he said that MSMEs that are a member of SFURTI clusters, owned by women, SC, or ST people, and located in the North East Region will receive an additional 5% contribution (NER).

He continued, "After passing all tiers, MSMEs that are registering through industry associations, Overall Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) organisations, would receive an additional contribution of 5%."
According to the minister, this programme has a special element that encourages OEMs and industry groups to encourage their supply chain vendors to take part.

With the help of inexperienced but capable LEAN consultants, MSMEs will adopt LEAN manufacturing technologies such as 5S, Kaizen, KANBAN, visual workplace, Poka Yoka, etc. to achieve basic, intermediate, and advanced levels.
He said, LEAN has the potential to spread across the country and wants to give India's MSMEs a road map to international competitiveness.

Under the scheme, MSMEs will implement LEAN manufacturing tools such as  5S, Kaizen, KANBAN, visual workplace, and Poka Yoka under the able guidance of trained and competent LEAN consultants to attain LEAN levels like basic, intermediate and advanced.

Through the journey, MSMEs can cut wastages substantially, increase productivity, improve quality, work safely, expanding their markets, and finally becoming competitive and profitable.
