Centre to give financial assistance to boost production of Covaxin

Coronavirus havoc has been increasingly rised. India is trying to meet the sudden demand for vaccines amid rising cases. The central government in order to the control the situation has decided to provide financial assistance to Bharat Biotech worth Rs 65 crore to boost production.

The Department of Biotechnology has stated in their statement about the boosting the production work of Covaxin seeing the surge of corona patients. Covaxin is India’s indigenously developed Covid-19 vaccine. It is successfully being used in the nationwide vaccination drive. The manufacture of Covaxin is all by Bharat Biotech solely. The Centre’s grant-in-aid will be part of its ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat 3.0 Mission COVID Suraksha’. In the latest reports it's said that the current production capacity of Covaxin will be doubled by May-June. The centre is also expecting the work growth to reach nearly 10 crore doses per month by September this year. Apart from the support to Bharat Biotech, the Centre has also announced financial support worth approximately Rs 65 crore to Haffkine Biopharmaceutical Corporation Ltd, Mumbai. 

Accordingly, the Haffkine Biopharmaceuticals Ltd had asked for around 12 months. However the government said that,  “Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL), Hyderabad - a facility under National Dairy Development Board and Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Limited (BIBCOL), Bulandshahr a CPSE under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India will also be supported to prepare their facility to provide 10-15 million doses per month by Aug-Sep 2021."
