Chennai M.K.Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, requested the Centre to sign an air transport bubble agreement with Singapore and Malaysia on Thursday.

The chief minister wrote to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, stating that Tamils with permanent residence in Singapore and Malaysia, as well as others who visited India during the pandemic, are suffering difficulties in returning home due to the lack of direct airline connections. People must fly through Dubai, Doha, and Colombo, which is inconvenient and costly because they must pay higher airfares and travel great distances, he said.

In the lack of a temporary Air Transport Bubble agreement between India and Singapore and Malaysia, he claims that other international carriers such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Srilankan Airlines have cornered the tourism market.

"As a result, I respectfully request that you enter into a temporary Air Transport Bubbles agreement with Singapore and Malaysia as soon as possible in order to provide temporary airline services and alleviate the difficulties that the Tamil diaspora in Singapore and Malaysia is experiencing," Stalin said.
