Daily wage labourer's wife won election in saltora assembly seat, learn Chandana's story

Kolkata: Chandana Bauri was one of the poorest candidates trying her luck in the West Bengal assembly elections. The BJP had fielded her from Saltora. She has managed to win amidst the excellent performance of trinamool Congress (TMC). Chandana, 30, is the wife of a daily wage labourer and a mother of three.

Chandana Bauri defeated Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Santosh Kumar Mandal by 4,145 votes in Saltora assembly seat in Bankura district. In an interview after getting the BJP ticket, she had said that she had no idea about it. She was informed of her candidature by the local leadership after she was named in the BJP list. Actor Mithun Chakraborty, who joined the BJP ahead of the elections, had campaigned for Chandana from Saltora region. Chandana Bauri then said, "It is a matter of pride for me that Mithun Chakraborty started campaigning from my assembly constituency".

Chandana Bauri is a mother of three children. She used to leave with her two daughters and a son.  Sometimes her husband also accompanied her to campaign who is a daily wage labourer in a construction company.
