The Punjab Police team took action on Friday morning at the residence of former state Director General of Police (DGP) Sumedh Singh Saini. The raid was carried out in a case registered in connection with the disappearance of a person after an attack on Saini in 1991 in Chandigarh. Officers said that Saini was not at his residence.

A case was registered against the former DGP in May this year in connection with the disappearance of Balwant Singh Multani, a junior engineer of Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Corporation. Multani, a resident of Mohali, was caught by the police after the terrorist attack on Saini. According to the FIR, Saini was the senior superintendent of police at the time of the incident in 1991.

A case has been registered against Saini and six others on the complaint of Multani's brother Palwinder. A day before the raid, a court in Mohali reserved judgment on Saini's anticipatory bail plea in the case. On August 21, the court allowed the Punjab Police to add the murder charge against Saini in this case. Two officers of the Chandigarh Police, who were co-accused in the missing case, became government witnesses.

The former DGP of Punjab Sumedh Singh Goel has a farmhouse in Jankhari village of Nihari area under the Sundernagar subdivision. He keeps coming here from time to time. Based on this input, the Punjab Police team conducted the raid, but there was no information about this raid by the Punjab Police to the Mandi District Police. SP Mandi Shalini Agnihotri said that he has not received any information in this context from the Punjab Police or anyone else.
