The Indian revolutionary Chandra Shekhar Azad's 92th death anniversary is observed on February 27, 2023. He was in Alfred Park, Allahabad, when armed police apprehended him there in 1931 after a friend betrayed him. He used a tiny pistol and a few reloads to hold the heavily armed cops for a considerable period of time.
Chandra Shekhar was born on July 23, 1906, in Bhabra, Madhya Pradesh. His parents are Pandit Sitaram Tiwari and Jagrani Devi.
Chandra Shekhar Azad completed his elementary schooling at Bhavra before moving on to Varanasi's Sanskrit Pathshala for his higher study. At a very young age, he began engaging in radical activities.
In his prime, Chandra Shekhar was entranced by the growth of the nonviolent, non-cooperation movement in India under Mahatma Gandhi (Bapu). Chandra Shekhar was arrested for joining the movement and produced before the magistrate and on being asked, he gave his name as 'Azad', father's name as 'Swatantra' and residence as 'jail'. The title of Azad stuck thereafter, making him Chandra Shekhar Azad.
He ultimately decided to shoot himself in the head when he had only one bullet left, keeping true to his vow that he would never be apprehended and held hostage by British colonialists. Chandrasekhar Azad Park in Allahabad is currently more commonly referred to as Alfred Park.
Let us remember Chandra Shekhar Azad, one of India's most key freedom fighters, by some of his inspirational quotes on his 92th death anniversary.
