The Football Confederation of South America (CONMEBOL) has reported that it may make a last-minute change in its 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers tournament due to the on-going pandemic. According to the report of Xinhua, the South American region program of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers will start 6 months late in October due to the pandemic caused by COVID19 virus.
"In most operational aspects, FIFA match schedules and venues can be changed," CONMEBOL released a statement. The association also said that a meeting with FIFA officials would be held in this regard, related to the tournament. The case is to be raised at the top level.
The South American region's premier football tournament - the Copa Libertadores - will begin on Tuesday, suspended since mid-March due to the Covid19 pandemic. The CONMEBOL qualifiers begin on October 8. In the opening round, Colombia will face Venezuela, Uruguay will face Chile, Bolivia will face Brazil, Paraguay will face Puru and Ecuador will face Argentina.
