Chaos continues in Bengal; People throw stones on Policemen

Kolkata: Local and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders staged a rally on Friday in violation of prohibitory orders, killing two people who were killed in a violent clash between two groups of miscreants in Bhatpara area of North 24 Parganas district. The situation in the region remains tense.

Prohibitory orders are in force in the area and a large number of police forces have been deployed. A police official said 16 people have been detained in connection with the clashes. It may be mentioned that two persons were killed and 11 others injured in Thursday's violent clashes between two groups belonging to Trinamool Congress and BJP. West Bengal Governor Kesarinath Tripathi expressed concern that there is a need to maintain peace not only in Bhatpara but also in the entire state.

Shops and markets remained closed in Bhatpara and Jagaddal areas. Internet services have also been temporarily banned. Section 144 has been enforced within and around the area.  However, no untoward incident has been reported on Thursday night. However, many people have said that the sound of a bomb blast was heard near Kankinara market this morning.
