New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to pass orders on a PIL seeking to make public the chargesheets filed in cases by investigating agencies like the police, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on their website. Justice MR Shah and Justice CT Ravikumar said in the judgment that if the charge sheet is given to people who are not related to the case, NGOs, then they can be misused.

The Supreme Court said that the charge sheet cannot be given to everyone. FIR is provided, for which the court had ordered in one of its judgments. The issue has been mentioned in last year's PMLA judgment, which was passed by a 3-judge bench of the Supreme Court. It was made clear in it that making it public can have side effects.

The top court has given this decision on the petition of journalist and activist Sourav Das filed through advocate Prashant Bhushan. In the judgment, the court has said that the issue of making public the ED's charge sheet has been mentioned in last year's PMLA judgment, which was passed by a three-judge bench of the apex court. It was made clear in it that making it public can have side effects.
