Chats and messages on Facebook’s messenger are now End- to-End encrypted. Whatsapp launched the feature few months ago; the step is now followed by its parent company Facebook.

However, the feature unlike whatsapp will not be provided automatically, as you have to update it first and visit the settings panel to operate your chat in the end-to-end encrypted format. The feature started to roll out in the month of August but got applied in the present day of October.

Users that download or update to the latest version of Facebook Messenger will now see the 'Secret' option in the top right corner of the New Message screen. For the end-to-end encryption to work, which ensures no-one including Facebook can read your messages, both the sender and receiver need to be on the latest edition of the app. The update is available for both Android and iOS, however, the change log on Google Play and the App Store does not detail the new feature.
