One of the Prime Ministers of our country comes from Shri Chaudhary Charan Singh who was sworn in as the 55th PM of our country. Chaudhary Charan Singh was born on December 23, 1902 in Noorpur village of Meerut district of UP to a middle class farmer family. His family was from a Jat background. His forefather Maharaja Nahar Singh made a special contribution to the first revolution of 1887.

Chaudhary Charan Singh received his elementary education from Noorpur Village and Matriculation Education Meerut, after which he started practising in Ghaziabad by receiving the title of Graduate in Science and A.K. Chaudhary Charan Singh married a daughter named Gayatri after coming to Meerut in 1929.

After some time Chaudhary Charan Singh joined the Congress party and was elected from Chhatrawali Assembly constituency in 1937. After Independence, these three terms were elected to the Assembly in 1952, 1962 and 1967, as a result of which departments like Revenue, Justice, Information, Medicine etc. When the Janata Party came to power at the Centre after the elections in 1977, Morarji Desai became the Prime Minister in collaboration with King Maker Jayprakash Narayan and Charan Singh was made the Home Minister of the country. This was followed by the differences between Morarji Desai and Charan Singh. Thus, on July 28, 1979, Chaudhary Charan Singh succeeded in becoming the Prime Minister in collaboration with the Socialist Parties and the Congress (U). The chariot of his life journey came to a halt on May 29, 1987. The farmer leader, who was over 84 years of age, went to death.
