New Delhi: On Friday (May 3), State-run oil marketing companies kept the retail petrol and diesel prices static across major cities of the country. In national capital Delhi, petrol is being sold for Rs 73.07 per litre while diesel costs Rs 66.66 a litre, no change compared with yesterday’s price. On Thursday, the retail fuel prices were slashed across four metro cities. Petrol prices in all the metro cities lowered by 6-7 paise per litre while diesel became cheaper by 5-6 paise. It is worth noting that the retail prices of petrol and diesel in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes.

In all Major cities across the nation prices as in Mumbai, citizens have to shell out Rs 78.64 for a litre of petrol while diesel costs Rs 69.77 per litre, as per data available with Indian Oil Corp website. Similarly, in Kolkata, petrol and diesel are selling for Rs 75.08 a litre and Rs 68.39 per litre, no change in rates against Thursday rates. People in Chennai have to pay Rs 75.84 for a litre of petrol while diesel retailed at Rs 70.39 per litre. In Noida also, petrol price remained static at Rs 72.37 and diesel price at Rs 65.71. In Gurugram, petrol, diesel prices remained unchanged at Rs 72.89 and Rs 65.79 respectively.

However, it is to be noted that it may be noted that the fuel price in the country is dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements. So far this year, Brent crude rose about 33 per cent, and in April this year, Brent has peaked 5.25 per cent. To be noted that on Thursday, in the international oil market, crude prices fell amid a sharp dip from the previous session on soaring US output and an expected supply rise from OPEC. International Brent crude futures were at trading USD 70.56 per barrel, down 19 cents, or 0.3 per cent, from their last close.
