Chennai based Gokulnath Unique Talent Academy, GUTA has become the first academy in India to get 15 Guinness World Records at a time. Of the 15 records, 10 were achieved by 10 different students and four by the academy founder Gokulnath and one title was bagged by trainer Nagaraj. Sajan Gokul, Jessica J, M Sakthipoorani, SD Divakar, Lakshitha Rajesh, S Rianna Andrea, Andriya Varghese, AS Ishwarya, Monisha V, Garima Pansari, Divina Smrithi and Vainavi Saravanan are the student record makers.
“We teach several kinds of flow arts and performing arts like hula hoop, gymnastics, juggling, aerial yoga, mime, silambam, magic, acting. All flow arts have a one-minute category in Guinness World Records. In the hula hoop category alone, nine students entered the Guinness World Records. There are several subcategories like rotations of a hula hoop on one foot while in headstand position in one 1-minute, hula hoop rotations on a balance board in a 1-minute, most, hula hoop rotations on the leg in the arabesque position in -minute, and so on. The students achieved the records from the period between June and December 2020 and we all received the certificates only by late December. We also host online classes for children and adults from across the world”, said the founder.
The founder who has appeared in various TV shows and movies set record in categories like most poi air wraps in one-minute, juggling catches on a balance board in one-minute, most rotations of a hula hoop around the nose in one minute, and most hat flicks from foot to head in one-minute. “I used to travel abroad for work and during that time, I attended a few flow arts workshops. I have also attended flow arts festivals conducted in India". Gokulnath answers when asked about how he learned the acts.
