Chennai: Doordarshan officer suspended for stopping PM Modi's speech

New Delhi: Prasar Bharati has suspended an officer of Chennai Doordarshan Centre citing disciplinary action. Doordarshan Kendra's Assistant Director R. Vasumthi had reportedly stopped broadcasting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech at IIT Madras and sources say that senior officials approve PM Modi's speech to be telecast on DD Podigi TV. But R. Vasumthi stopped the speech. In a letter issued by Prasar Bharati, it said, "Vasumathi has been suspended under the Civil Service Rules 1965".

The reason behind the suspension has not been clearly stated," the letter said, citing only disciplinary action. PM Modi addressed the convocation of IIT Madras on September 30. During the visit, the Prime Minister attended the award distribution ceremony of the Singapore-India Hackathon and the Prime Minister proposed to launch a similar hackathon for ASEAN countries, through which the Prime Minister sought to bring in new ideas on climate change.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the event here that "you are all working here constantly, but because of Chennai snacks, you look absolutely fresh. It's great to have young people participate in Hackathon with this kind of enthusiasm, what you've done on the camera will help Parliament as well," he said.
