Chennai: The body of a corona victim was recovered at Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital in Chennai last week. According to doctors, the body was lying on the eighth floor of the hospital for about 15 days. Police have now arrested a contract worker working in the hospital in the case. The body of the corona patient was recovered on June 8. Police said, the contract worker had been working in the hospital for the past three years and strangled the corona patient to death for money.

Sunita, 41, was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital on May 22 due to respiratory problems. According to reports, the postmortem report of the patient has also confirmed the murder and the accused woman worker has also confessed to the crime. The accused said she killed the victim for money and mobile phone. Police questioned others at the hospital and reached the accused Rati Devi. Victims mobile phone has also been seized from Rati Devi. Other staff members of the hospital told the police that the last time Rati Devi was seen carrying Sunita in a wheelchair was seen. Sunita had been missing since May 23.

Interrogation revealed that the accused Rati Devi is a widow who lives with her 22-year-old son and a daughter. He also killed Sunita because she desperately needed money. Rati Devi told police that she saw a Rs 500 note in Sunita's bag and killed Sunita to steal it. For this she took Sunita in a wheelchair on the pretext of a scan. She took Sunita to the eighth floor in an emergency lift and then strangled her to death.
