A doctor at a government hospital in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, was attacked on Wednesday morning by a 25-year-old man. The assailant stabbed the doctor seven times, including in the chest, allegedly over concerns about medication prescribed to his mother, a cancer patient.
The victim, an oncologist with a history of heart problems, sustained injuries to his upper chest, head, scalp, neck, and ear. He was rushed to the ICU, where doctors report his condition as stable.

The attack occurred in the Outpatient Department (OPD) of the Kalaignar Centenary Multispeciality Government Hospital. The attacker, posing as a hospital employee, confronted the doctor, accusing him of giving his mother the wrong medication. The man attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended and handed over to the authorities at Guindy Police Station.
Government Response
Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian visited the hospital soon after the incident. He confirmed that the attack was carried out with a small knife the assailant had concealed. The minister denied any security lapses at the facility. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also visited the hospital and assured a thorough investigation.
