It is to be noted that good news for Chennai Metro commuters! Now, Chennaiites can enjoy unlimited rides with metro's newly launched monthly pass. The pass will be worth Rs 2,500 with an additional refundable fee of Rs 50. It may be noted that Chennai Metro already has a tourist card which allows people to take unlimited rides for Rs 100.

A Chennai Metro Rail official was quoted in a The Source report saying, "If a commuter buys this new monthly card, he can travel anywhere on the 45-km stretch and take any number of rides. He can take rides for 30 days. The card itself is valid for three months; he can recharge this card in case he wants to continue using it."

However, Traffic and Transportation Forum's V.Subramani told the publication that even though the card is a good move, it is way too expensive. He further went on to say that the card will benefit more passengers if the cost is brought down to Rs 1,000 instead of Rs 2,500.

Here it is to be noted that as per metro officials, this card will benefit monthly tourists and office goers who use metro rail services multiple times a day. This will help them save time by avoiding ticket queues at the station.  Worth mentioning here is that Chennai Metro already has a smart card which offers passengers rides at a discounted rate. With smart cards, passengers can avail a 10 per cent discount on their fare. With Chennai Metro's tip card, passengers can take a limited number of rides between two stations at a 20 per cent discount.
