Chhath Puja is one of the festivals that enjoys massive importance in India. This festival is celebrated in most parts of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and also in some parts of Nepal. The festival starts in the month of Kartika on its sixth day. The festival lasts for four days and is dedicated to worshipping Lord Sun for seeking his blessing and praying for keeping the family healthy and wealthy.

On this auspicious day offering prayer to Lord Sun and taking dips into the holy waters of the Ganga. The day celebrates the benevolent act of Lord Sun and his wife for granting this beautiful life on the earth.  Chaiti Chhath is observed in the first few months of summer, whereas Kartik Chhath is celebrated in the months of October and November. Chhath Puja will be observed from October 28 through October 31 this year. It occurs on the sixth day of the Karthik month, according to the Hindu calendar. In Hinduism certain things are consider auspicious and unauspicious on the days, here are the things you should avoid doing on Chhatt Pooja.

  1. Do not skip bath, it is important to take bath before participating in any                  Chhath Puja rituals.
  2. Do not forget to take blessing from Chhati Maiya, Take the blessing of elders and worship Chhati Maiya and the Sun God.
  3. Do not skip vrat Katha, It is essential to recite or listen to Vrat Katha at night.
  4. Do not skip to apply orange vermillion.
  5. A Big no to onion and garlic. Drinking and Smoking are strictly forbidden during the Puja.
  6. On Nahay Khay, vratis start their day by cleaning every nook and corner of their house. Cleanliness and hygiene should be maintained throughout the festival.
  7. All the ingredients used in cooking, such as rice, beans, and vegetables, are either newly purchased or well cleaned, and they shouldn't be combined with anything that has been eaten before or handled with filthy hands.
  8. After offering it to Sun god and Chatthi Maiya, the prasad is first consumed by the person who's keeping the fast and then distributed to others in the family.
  9. Don’t touch anything intended for Puja Samagri without first washing your hands or having a bath.
  10. Avoid eating anything before The Puja begins. Abstain eating non-vegetarian food during these auspicious days of Chhath Puja.
