It is disappointing for the Chhattisgarh residents that the BJP government in Chhattisgarh has refused to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel. It is being argued that VAT is already low compared to other states. So it will not be reduced now.

It is notable that the State Commerce Minister Amar Agrawal made it clear that VAT is already low compared to other states, it can not be reduced further. VAT is currently being charged 29.93% on petrol and diesel in the state. With this, a five percent reduction was expected to reduce the prices of both petroleum products by about 3 to 5 paisa per liter.

The special thing is that the state's economic condition is also good these days. Yet the VAT is not being reduced because, but because of the various schemes financial burden is increasing. Even this month, the government has taken a loan of Rs 2100 crores for distribution of paddy bonanza, and the next month, it is estimated to spend 1200 crores in distributing smartphones from next month. Therefore, the reduction of weight has been clearly forbidden.

Rupani said at a press meet on Tuesday morning, "After the central government's instructions, Gujarat has decided to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by 4 percent from today mid-night." The state government is bound to suffer a loss of Rs 2,316 crore to the exchequer with this announcement.
