Sukma (Chhattisgarh) [India], August 06 (NT): In a massive win to the security forces in Sukma Chhattisgarh, at least 14 Maoists were gun downed in an encounter on Monday near Sukma's Konta and Golapalli police station limits.

The security forces also found 16 weapons from the spot. According to Sukma's Superintendent of Police, Abhishek Meena, the encounter took place in the wee hours of the today morning when the police patrol party was carrying out a search operation in the region.

The exchange of fire took place this morning in a forest area in south Sukma, which is around 500 km from Raipur, Deputy Inspector General (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj P told the news agency PTI.

The security forces are continuing with their search to make sure the presence of more Naxals around the encounter site.

 Worth mention here earlier this month, the Chhattisgarh Police stated that Maoists had released a pamphlet claiming that they lost 247 of their cadres in encounters with security forces over the span of last two years.

According to the reports of Special Director General (Anti-Naxal Operations) DM Awasthi It is said that security forces recovered bodies of 208 Naxals in more than 500 encounters which was broken out between August 2016 and July 2018. (NT)
