Raipur: A rare species of snake Ahiraj was spotted at around 8 p.m. on Monday at Datargi in Palari block of Balodabazar district of Chhattisgarh. Dasru Yadav, a villager, was locked in a sack and brought to his house and killed him. By the time the forest department team reached Dasru's house, Dasru had killed the snake and hung it around his neck.

Dinesh Verma, a forest department employee, along with his colleagues, rushed to Dasru's house and took the dead snake and sent him for post-mortem. The doctor confirmed the snake to be killed. A case was then registered against Dasru Yadav. He was produced before the Baloda Bazar court on Wednesday, from where he was sentenced to 13 days in jail till August 20. This will probably be the first case that someone has been convicted for killing a snake. This event is discussed throughout the zone.

In this connection, Deputy Ranger Keshri Jaiswal has said that Dasru Yadav, who killed the rare snake Ahiraj in Datargi, has been remanded to 13 days remand by the court. A case has been registered against him under Sections 9 and 51 of the Forest Act 1972.
