Raipur: Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel has offered to resign as the state unit's president amid ongoing efforts to change the Congress since his embarrassing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. He has said that he has conveyed to the party high command his intention to step down as the Chairman of the State Congress Committee (PCC) and Congress President Rahul Gandhi will take a decision in this regard.

Bhupesh Baghel has said that he hopes Gandhi will continue as Congress president as the party under his leadership can stand back and form a government in 2024. On Thursday, Baghel, who met Congress President Rahul Gandhi on the question of change in the state Congress Committee, said, "I have said that the PCC chief should be appointed to somebody else. The national president will make a final decision anytime.'

On the question of accountability for the embarrassing defeat in the elections, Chhattisgarh CM Baghel said, "We all have a collective responsibility. Congress President Rahul Gandhi worked hard. Those who had a responsibility in the territories also worked hard. Even after that, the result did not come true. Now, whatever the high command and the party decides, we will all accept it," he said.  It may be mentioned that the Congress, which won an impressive majority in the Chhattisgarh assembly elections held at the end of last year, was able to win only two of the 11 seats in the state in the Lok Sabha elections.
