Chhattisgarh government to provide ration cards to 65 lakh families

Raipur: Chhattisgarh government has decided to provide ration cards to all 65 lakh families of the state to provide food security. State Agriculture Minister Ravindra Chaubey said several important decisions were taken at the cabinet meeting in the ministry here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

According to the information, Choubey said that in the cabinet meeting, it was decided that all 65 lakh households in the state would be benefitted from ration cards with a view to provide food security. At present, 58 lakh households have ration cards. Now the income tax payers will also become ration cards. New ration cards will be created for all 65 lakh families, including seven lakh new families.

At the same, he informed that the ration card of general category (income tax) and general category (non-taxpayer) will be issued as per entitlement by splitting general category cards into two groups. The rate of rice has been fixed at Rs. 10 per kg for general category (income tax) and general category (non-taxpayer). Chaubey said that till the new ration card is created, the existing ration cardholders will continue to get the material from the old ration card.
