Bijapur: In Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, Naxalites killed a Samajwadi Party (SP) leader. Police officials in Bijapur district said in a briefing on Wednesday that The Naxalites killed SP leader Santosh Punem near Marimulla village under Ilamadi police station area of the district.

Police officials said the Punem was working as the contractor  in the area. On Tuesday evening, the Naxalites kidnapped Punem. His body was reported to have been found this morning. Officials said this morning police received information that Punem's body was lying near Marimla hill and a police team was rushed to the spot. Police officials said, the police team has rushed to the spot with the body. He said, in the 2018 assembly elections, Punem had contested from Bijapur assembly seat on the SP ticket.

Naxalite attacks on political party workers and leaders are continuing in Naxal affected areas of the state. On April 9 this year, Naxals blew up a landmine near Shyamgiri village in neighbouring Dantewada district and blew up the vehicle of the MLA of the area. BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi and four police personnel were killed in the attack.
