Raipur: The martyrdom of a Superintendent of Police in Chhattisgarh has been honoured in a unique way for the last 10 years. "After 10 years of the killing of the Superintendent of Police in the Naxal attack, six jawans are still in service, the jawans are getting the facility of vehicles and bungalows. The Chhattisgarh Police Has been paying this unique tribute to the Superintendent of Police for the last 10 years.

It may be mentioned that Vinod Kumar Chaube, the country's first martyr in the Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh, was posthumously awarded Kirti Chakra. Vinod Kumar, who led his team while he was the police captain of Rajnandgaon, was martyred during an encounter with the Naxal front on July 12, 2009. The Chhattisgarh police, therefore, have described the proverb saying that 'no martyrdom goes waste nor does the martyr die'.

V.K. This was the first Naxal attack in the country in which a Superintendent of Police was martyred. 29 other jawans were also killed in the Naxal attack. The Chhattisgarh Police has maintained their status and values even after 10 years of the SP's martyrdom.
