New Delhi, India: P Chidambaram, a prominent Congressman and former finance minister, attacked Opposition parties on Tuesday, saying they have "no opinions on the economy" ahead of today's Budget presentation.

"If you read some newspapers the morning following the Economic Survey, you will come to the notion that India has no opposition. And, even if there is a weak opposition, it has no economic policy positions "A day after the Economic Survey was tabled in both Houses of Parliament, the Congress leader tweeted.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times," Chidambaram added, quoting a line from Charles Dickens' work "A Tale of Two Cities."

The Congress leader stated after the Economic Survey was tabled in both Houses of Parliament that the GDP will be the same on March 31, 2022 as it was on March 31, 2020. He said it takes two years "to get back to where we were on March 31, 2020," a dig at the government. "The Economic Survey reiterates ad nauseam that the economy will have recovered to pre-pandemic levels (2019-20) by the end of 2021-22," he tweeted on Monday.

"In plain English, this means that the GDP on 31.3.2022 will be the same as it was on 31.3.2020. It took two years to go back to where we were on 31-3-2020, which means it took two years to get back to where we were on 31-3-2020 " he added.
