New Delhi: Congress veteran and former Union minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday requested the Supreme Court to dismiss M Venkaiah Naidu's idea of an "Rs 192 crore enclave" for the Vice President, saying, "Let pride be destroyed and let conscience prevail." Chidambaram's statement came after a media report claimed that the government had accelerated its plan to build a new residence for the vice president by inviting pre-qualification bids for the proposed vice president's enclave next to North Block and Rashtrapati Bhavan. The estimated cost is Rs 192 crore.

Chidambaram tweeted, 'In India where there should be penance in high places, an enclave worth Rs 192 crore will be created for the Vice President.' The former Union minister said, 'Shri Venkaiah Naidu should reject the idea as long as he is on the vice president's post. This is another vanity project. Let pride be destroyed and conscience prevails.'

In fact, Congress is asking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government to postpone its plans on the Central Vista Redevelopment Project. Congress is alleging that it is an "arrogant project" and a waste of public funds.
