A high official of Godrej Agrovet said on Thursday that rumors are being spread on social media that chicken may spread coronavirus. Due to this, both the price and sales of chicken have been recorded in the market.

BS Yadav, managing director of Godrej Agrovet said that the group's poultry arm - Godrej Tyson Foods, has also found it difficult, as their sales have come down drastically by 40 percent in the last one month. Earlier, the company used to sell six lakh chicken in a week, which has fallen a lot. He has said that, however, if the rumors cease in the next 2-3 months, then the consumption of chicken will also increase and then there will be a shortage of chicken in the country. Due to this, there can be a huge increase in prices.
Yadav said that the sales of chicken in a week in the country has come down to 3.5 crore chicken as compared to 7.5 crores, while the wholesale price which was Rs 100 per kg in the last one month has now reduced to Rs 35 per kg in the market. While its cost is about Rs 75 per kg. But even after this, customers are not coming to buy chicken.
