Panaji: A bench of the Bombay High Court in Goa on Wednesday dismissed a petition challenging a circular of the state government. The circular said that the child should be at least three years old on May 31 for admission to pre-primary school in the 2021-22 academic year. A mother had filed a petition in the high court raising the issue of admission of her child on which the court refused to grant relief.

The mother said her child was admitted after the admission process that started in January, but later got canceled after the government circular. The mother said she had already paid the fees. Her lawyer argued that the circular should have been issued by the government long before the academic year began. He said the CM made a statement that the new education policy would be implemented from the next academic year (2022-2023) when he was delivering a speech at the two-day seminar.

He also handed over a news excerpt of the August 12 statement to the court. The court was told that the statement was made by the CM and not by a peon or a lower-level clerk. Therefore, it should be taken seriously and the child should be allowed (to enter). The lawyer also argued why only this one aspect of NEP is being implemented.
