New Delhi: China is enhancing its naval strength to become a global power. Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh said that to achieve this goal, it has transferred a lot of resources and weapons of its People's Liberation Army to the Navy. He said, India is carefully monitoring it.

He said this on a white paper brought by the Chinese Defense Ministry on Wednesday on its military preparedness. In a white paper titled 'Chinese National Defense in the New IRA', Beijing has shared various aspects of its military programmes, comparing it with India, the US, Russia and other countries. On the sidelines of an international seminar on shipbuilding, Admiral Singh said that this is not just a white paper from China, such things have been said in the past.

We are closely monitoring China's ambition to become a global power and see how we respond within our budgets and obligations. On the second indigenous aircraft carrier, the navy chief said, "We plan to build an electric propulsion of 65,000 tonnes capacity and the Ketault Assisted Takeoff Butt Unrest recovery (CATOBAR). He said the construction of the first indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant is in the final stages and is expected to be tested by sea in 2020.

He said, technology transfer is very important as our effort is to build all platforms indigenously in the future. He said, other projects like multi-roll helicopters and naval utility helicopters are in the process of construction. He also said that by 2050, the Navy has a target of having 200 ships and 500 aircraft. The government has approved the induction of 56 new warships and six submarines to boost the navy's operational capabilities.
