Beijing [China], April 30 (NT): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is likely to visit North Korea this week as ANI reported. This move comes after Korean leaders held a historic summit on Friday.
Foreign Minister Wang, who is also a State Councilor in China's cabinet, was warmly invited by his North Korean counterpart Ri Yong-ho on Wednesday and Thursday.
Worth mentioning here Wang will be the first Chinese foreign minister to visit North Korea since 2007.Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said in a statement issued on Monday that Wang will visit on May 2 and 3.
As per the Chinese analysts, “China could be left out of the talks to make the peninsula nuclear-free following a meeting between United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
"Beijing should be involved in talks for a peace treaty to officially end the Korean War," they asserted.
China had earlier supported a series of United Nations (UN) sanctions against Pyongyang over its nuclear weapons programme.
The commitment of "no more war" and promise to sign a peace treaty 65 years after the end of the Korean War marks a vital step towards long-lasting provincial stability.
Kim and Moon Jae-in agreed to follow the complete denuclearization of the peninsula.(NT)
