China had recently said that the Dalai Lama's successor should be decided in China and India's intervention on the issue cannot be accepted. While China is not in favour of incorporating any spiritual process into the next Dalai Lama's appointment, on the other hand, the Tibetan spiritual leader is traditionally selected, including the spiritual process. According to the current Dalai Lama (84), the process of electing his successor will start in 2025 when he is 90 years old.

The Dalai Lama said in a statement that the politically elected candidate should not be recognized, including the people of the People's Republic of China. Although the Dalai Lama has not explained all the procedures to be held to select his successor, scholars say that Buddhist monasteries wish to reincarnate him with prayers and tantric rituals.
