Beijing: Six people were killed and one was injured in a kindergarten attack that was allegedly carried out by a 25-year-old man on Monday in China's Guangdong province, sparking widespread outrage over violence against children in schools.

The southern province's Lianjiang county was the scene of a stabbing attack, according to the media. Wu from Lianjiang, the suspect, had been detained, according to the police, who also said they were conducting an investigation.

Adults and children were among the victims, according to some media outlets.

Although China has strict gun laws and high security standards, violent crime is still uncommon there. However, recent incidents of stabbings at pre-schools have raised questions about school safety.

On the social media site Weibo, the most recent news sparked an emotional discussion. With 290 million views by 1:50 p.m., it was the topic of most trending conversation.

The death penalty was demanded for the suspect by some social media users. To subject helpless children to this treatment is outrageous. What number of families will this destroy? I'm in favour of the death penalty, a Weibo user declared.

Another user raised concerns about school security, particularly in light of similar recent attacks.
"Why do these cases keep happening, though?"

Three people were killed and six others were hurt in a stabbing at a kindergarten in the Jiangxi province of southern China in August of last year.

In 2021, a man attacked a kindergarten in Guangxi's southwest, killing two kids and injuring 16 others.

Attacks on children have also brought attention to mental health, which frequently slips under the radar because of the stigma associated with mental illnesses in society.

A 22-year-old man injured numerous people and himself when he detonated an explosive device outside a kindergarten in Jiangsu province in 2017.
According to state media, the man had a neurological condition and had written death threats on the walls of his house.

A string of violent assaults that occurred in Hong Kong last month also brought up the subject of mental health.

The COVID-19 pandemic, according to mental health professionals, is a significant contributor to the rise in mental health issues.
