China's delegate, Qi Jia, faced visa problems that hindered her participation in the 72nd Miss Universe competition held in El Salvador's Jose Adolfo Pineda Arena on November 18. Qi Jia encountered delays in obtaining her visa, causing her to miss essential pre-competition events leading up to the finale.
The official statement from the Miss Universe China Instagram page highlighted that despite prompt visa application and active preparation, the delayed issuance resulted in Qi Jia losing over a week of crucial pre-competition activities, making it impossible for her to compete this year.
This setback led to Qi Jia's withdrawal from the competition, leaving China without representation in the current Miss Universe pageant. However, the Miss Universe China page expressed optimism for the future, confirming that China will be represented in the Miss Universe 2024 competition by the 2023 Miss Universe China.
El Salvador is hosting the beauty pageant for the first time, adding significance to this year's event. The hosting duties are carried out by TV personalities Jeannie Mai Jenkins and Maria Menounos, with former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo also participating in presenting the show.
Despite Qi Jia's absence, the anticipation for the 72nd Miss Universe remains high, with people worldwide eagerly waiting for the crowning of the next titleholder.
