Xi'an: Residents in the Chinese cities of Xian and Yuzhou say the strict lockdowns are wreaking havoc on the population and healthcare systems, with complaints of food shortages and deadly delays in receiving medical attention.

Xi'an, a city of 13 million people, has been under rigorous lockdown for two weeks, while Yuzhou's 1.2 million residents have been instructed to stay inside since Monday evening, following the discovery of three asymptomatic cases.  The usage of public transportation, private automobiles, and all shops and venues that do not provide daily necessities have all been halted, according to the report.

Despite widespread support for authorities' quick response to outbreaks, a considerable number of citizens have expressed their concerns and anxiety on China's closely monitored and regulated social media platforms, according to the research.

The local media has reported on delays in the city's major hospitals, which require patients to pass negative tests before being admitted. According to a screenshot of one post that went viral before being removed, a guy and his sick father were turned away from a Xi'an hospital because they were from a high-risk neighbourhood. According to the report, the man's father was having a heart attack when he was admitted for treatment, but he died before he could be treated.
