Describing India's sovereignty and territorial integrity as "sacred and divine," the Chinese Parliament has adopted a new law on the protection and use of border areas. This could have an impact on Beijing's border dispute with India. According to a report received, members of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) gave the law proportionate lying at the closing meeting of Parliament on Saturday.

The same law will come into effect from 1st January next year. According to it, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People's Republic of China is pure and sacred. According to the report, the law also indicates that the country can take steps to strengthen border security, help in economic and social development, open border areas, improve, promote public service and infrastructure in such areas and help the people and work of these people.

It can also take measures to promote coordination in defence, social and economic development along the border. The country will deal with land boundary issues with neighbouring countries following the principles of equality, mutual trust and friendly dialogue and will resort to dialogue for proper resolution of long-pending border issues and disputes. Beijing has resolved border disputes with 12 of its neighbours. But it has not yet finalized the border agreement with India and Bhutan.
