Dubai: A Chinese company on Monday tested an electric flying taxi in Dubai, providing a glimpse of cutting-edge technology that could one day transport people through cities above all traffic, according to the Associated Press.

Several flying car projects are being developed around the world, including the XPeng X2, which was built by the aviation division of Guangzhou-based XPeng Inc.
There have been only a small number of successful passenger trials, and it would probably be years before any were actually put into use.
The company claims that although Monday's demonstration used an empty cockpit, a manned flight test was actually conducted in July 2021.

The two-passenger, comprehensively designed vehicle is propelled by a set of eight propellers. According to the company, its top speed is 130 kilometers per hour (80 mph).
EVTOL, or "electric vertical takeoff and landing," vehicles provide quick point-to-point personal travel, unlike helicopters and airplanes.

One day, passengers could be carried across the city in driverless cars, over congested streets. However, the industry still faces significant difficulties, such as battery life, safety and air traffic control concerns, and infrastructure problems.
