On the one hand, Bollywood Big Budget movies are struggling in theatre on the other hand Chiyan Vikram’s cobra scores big on its first day. Cobra is one of the most awaited movies. Cricketer Irfan Khan made his acting debut in this movie.
Cobra opened to Rs. 11 crores approx in Tamil Nadu, which is the biggest start for Chiyaan Vikram in the state. Vikram's best prior to the release of Cobra was his 2015 release I which collected Rs. 9.40 crores but that film’s main driving force was its director, Shankar. Apart from that, Saamy 2 is his next best opener at Rs. 5.40 crores and Cobra surpassed that quite easily. Cobra has been receiving mixed reviews from critics and audience alike.
Apart from Tamil Nadu, Cobra is also performing well in Kerala by collecting Rs 1.25 crore on its first day. Similarly, the film debuted at the number 1 position in Malaysia. The Vikram starrer made a gross of Rs 13 .8 crore worldwide. Reportedly the film made a box office collection of Rs 12 crore in Tamil Nadu, Rs1.5 crore in Kerala. The movie was also released in Telugu and has reportedly made an opening of Rs 40 lakh in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking of Cobra, Alongside Vikram, KGF's Srinidhi Shetty, Irfan Pathan, Meenakshi Govindarajan and Mirnalini Ravi played crucial roles in the film. KS Ravikumar, Miya George, Anandraj and Roshan Mathrew were part of the cast as well. Produced by SS Lalit Kumar, the film had music scored by AR Rahman.
