NEW DELHI: The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 has been passed in the Parliament after a discussion regarding various Clauses of the Bill on Tuesday.

The Bill aims to give citizenship to illegal migrants of six religious minority groups from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The opposition MPs protested against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. While the Congress MPs staged a walkout, the Trinamool Congress said the bill is highly divisive and lead to violence. The Bill has also faced massive opposition in northeastern states, particularly Assam, after PM Modi declared the intention to get the bill passed in Parliament.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tabled the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha.

The Modi government is also expected to table bill promising 10 % reservations for economically weaker upper castes in Parliament, a day after it was cleared by the Union Cabinet. According to the source, The bill will be tabled by Union Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot in Lok Sabha. It will then be sent to the Rajya Sabha. This reservation will deliver benefits to upper castes such as Brahmins, Rajputs, Banias, as well as Jats that do not come under Other Backward Classes category.
