Opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Bill has intensified in the northeastern states of Assam and Tripura. It has been passed by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. This bill will become law after the signature of the President. On the other hand, protests and violence continue in both states. Curfew has been imposed in Assam's Dibrugarh district till further orders. In Guwahati, the state government has imposed curfew till 7 pm on Thursday night.

In Assam, student organizations vandalized during the protest. Due to the protests, all the flights from Kolkata (West Bengal) to the Dibrugarh sector (Assam) have been canceled. Vistara, Indigo, and SpiceJet have canceled its flights to Assam. Also, Ranji Trophy has been suspended in Assam and Tripura.

The Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, has also appealed for peace to the people who are protesting. PM Modi wrote, "I want to assure my brothers and sisters of Assam that they have nothing to worry after the passing of #CAB. I want to assure them- no one can take away your rights, unique identity and beautiful culture. It will continue to flourish and grow." Due to violence and arson, the security forces had to fire. Therefore, curfew was imposed indefinitely in Guwahati and Dibrugarh in Assam and the army was deployed in four districts.
