Civil Aviation Ministry releases draft National Air Sports Policy

The government has released a proposed  draft national policy for air sports in the country, which will compel organisations who provide these services and their equipment to register and face penalties if they do not.

The strategy envisions a two-tier governance system for air sports in India, with the Air Sports Federation of India (ASFI) as the apex governing body and associations for each air sport. Aerobatics, aeromodelling, amateur-built and experimental aircraft, ballooning, drones, gliding, hang gliding, paragliding, microlighting, paramotoring, skydiving, and vintage aircraft will be among the sports covered.

The ASFI would be a self-governing organisation under the Ministry of Civil Aviation that will represent India at the Fédération Aéronaautique Internationale (FAI) in Lausanne and other international air sports platforms. It will oversee a variety of facets of air sports, such as regulation, certification, contests, rewards, and penalties, among other things.

Each air sports association will establish its own safety criteria for equipment, infrastructure, people, and training, as well as the disciplinary procedures that will be taken if those standards are not met. If you are unable to do so, the ASFI may take action against you. Members of the respective air sports associations will be required to register all persons and entities providing air sports services. It will also be necessary to register any key equipment that is utilised.
