New Delhi: The process of appointing a new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the country has started. The current Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi has recommended the Central Government to make Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde the next CJI. India's CJI Ranjan Gogoi has recommended an appointment letter to the Center for the second senior-most Justice Justice SA Bobde as the next Chief Justice of India. According to the procedure, the current CJI only recommends for the next CJI.

On 23 April 2012, Justice Ranjan Gogoi became Justice of the Supreme Court.
