On Sunday, a girl student at Guwahati's Modern English School attempted suicide and died. On Friday around 11:30 a.m., the student attempted suicide by jumping from the fifth level of the school. The child's family claims that the school's principal, Jonali Das, has mentally harassed the girl student.

During the school's Sports Week, the school principal is said to have verbally insulted the girl. The Class VIII student attempted suicide by jumping off the fifth floor of the school building shortly after being abused by the principal. At 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, the youngster died from her injuries. 

The Deori People's Forum staged a protest and locked the school where the dead studied as word of her death spread like wildfire. As part of the protest, a large number of people from the Deori village blocked the access road to the school. People from the Deori community held a huge rally against the school's principal. Justice for the deceased has been requested by the deceased's family and the Deori community. The deceased's family members have filed a FIR with the Odalbakra police unit.
