Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde is engaged in giving constant jolts to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. In the recent case, Chief Minister Shinde has demanded Election Commission (EC) that the Shinde faction be recognised as the real Shiv Sena. Election Commission sources have also confirmed this. Reports say that on Tuesday, July 19, late evening, a letter was also received by the Election Commission from the MPs of the Shinde faction. It has also appealed to the Shinde faction to be recognised as the real Shiv Sena. However, the EC is going to give equal opportunity to both the parties under the process of recognition of the political party to decide on this.

It is known that the Eknath Shinde Group has given this claim to the Shiv Sena in bulk on the basis of the support of more than 2-thirds of the MLAs with them and 12 out of 19 MPs. On the basis of this, the Shinde faction has written to the Election Commission. Election Commission sources confirmed that a letter was received from the Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction around 6 pm on Tuesday. The letter was written within hours after 12 of the party's 19 MPs wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker. Not only this, but 12 MPs have also written this letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker regarding the recognition of their colleague Rahul Shewale as their leader and Bhavana Gawli as chief whip.

Shinde's move is increasing the chances of the Shiv Sena's Uddhav faction contesting the decisive BMC election without the "bow and arrow" symbol. Significantly, this symbol has become synonymous with the Shiv Sena. According to a source, in a letter to the Election Commission, the Shinde faction mentioned the support of 12 Shiv Sena MPs but did not provide much details. Speculation is rife that the Shinde faction is also making an appeal to be identified as the 'real' Shiv Sena with the right to use its reserved party symbol 'bow and arrow'. The Uddhav faction had already written to the Election Commission requesting that his views be heard in the matter of claiming the party's name and symbol.
