Agartala: Politicians often remind voters of how they have fulfilled the promises made during the election campaign. But Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma surprised people in Tripura by admitting at a public rally that he had made a "false promise" in the 2018 elections, but luckily for him, the BJP government in the state fulfilled that promise.

Addressing a public meeting in Tripura's Gomti district, CM Sarma said that as in-charge of Tripura elections in 2018, he had once promised to pay Rs 2,000 as social security pension if the party came to power. 'I was really afraid of coming to Tripura because what if someone asks me about it? Recently, I read in a newspaper that the Manik Saha government has increased the pension to Rs 2,000.' Let us tell you that the BJP has given all its strength to retain its power in the northeastern state of Tripura, which is having assembly elections in two months.

The BJP has started an aggressive election campaign in Tripura. In 2018, the BJP captured power in Tripura with a massive mandate, ousting the Left parties. According to party sources, balancing the equations of power in the state unit ahead of the upcoming assembly elections and retaining the massive majority base secured during the last election remains a tough challenge for the BJP.
