Friday; July 8, 2016 :According to the Assam Chief Minister-Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Amongst the liabilities that the new state government has inherited is a debt of 1,200 crore that the previous government spent on poll sops like threads and blankets”

"The material was distributed before the elections, but the money was never given to the suppliers. It is now our liability, most oil fields are majorly run by private companies”,said Sonowal

"The state refineries process 16 million tonnes of oil annually, and we want to take up our domestic production to 7million tonnes up from the present 4million tonnes," said Sonowal.

Chief Minister further informed that, “ the Numaligarh refinery will soon start producing 9 million tonnes, up from the current 3 million tonnes it produces. Of the 20,000 crore needed for the upgradation, the Centre has already okayed 10,000 crore”

He said,"There are also a lot of possibilities brought up by a river. Vegetation, waterways, etc hold a lot of possibilities. We are working to build a central channel on the Brahmaputra to develop waterways as a means of transportation,".
