Ranchi: Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren on Monday laid the foundation stone of 14 rice mills in 10 cities and said 100 more such facilities are needed in the state to meet the demand for agricultural produce. CM Hemant Soren said his government is working to strengthen the infrastructure related to farming as procurement of maximum quantity of rice is a challenge.

These 14 rice mills will be set up in Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, West Singhbhum, Khunti, Gumla, Simdega, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Godda districts. CM Soren said, "We are committed to developing infrastructure in view of agriculture. At present, in the absence of proper facilities, the Government is not able to procure adequate quantity of rice from the farmers. We will soon set up these 14 mills so that the producers get remunerative prices. There is a need for at least 100 more such units in the state. At present, there are 80 rice mills in Jharkhand.

At the same time, CM Hemant Soren said, "The total rice cultivation in the state is 50-60 lakh tonnes every year, but in the absence of infrastructure, only 15 lakh tonnes is sent to the mills. He said that apart from rice mills, the government is also focusing on food processing units, dairying, animal husbandry and fisheries. At the same time, Food Supplies Minister Rameshwar Oraon said that at this time we needed rice mills. Even today, we have to send paddy to Bihar and Chhattisgarh. 20 mills were proposed by the Department, 14 have been approved.
