Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday said that the people of the state should continue to wear masks to avoid corona infection. Corona has not gone away yet and the public should not reduce their protection against Corona keeping this in mind. He urged that though the figure of those admitted to the hospital (due to coronavirus) is low, but still everyone should be vigilant as corona is not completely over yet.

A statement issued by the chief minister's office (CMO) said that Thackeray made this request to the public in the wake of the weekly meeting of the state cabinet here. At the same time, according to the health bulletin, 470 corona positive cases were found in Maharashtra on Wednesday, the highest since March 5. Of these, Mumbai recorded 295 cases, the highest single-day increase since February 12. Mumbai has registered a 52.79 per cent increase in corona cases, while it was 68.75 per cent in Palghar district, 27.92 per cent in Thane district and 18.52 per cent in Raigad.

CM Thackeray said that the state's weekly positivity rate is 1.59 per cent, with Mumbai and Pune reporting more positivity than the average of the state. Thackeray said in the statement that at present only one corona patient is on ventilator, while 18 patients are on oxygen support. "Masks and vaccination are essential. At present, 92.27 per cent of the people above the age of 18 have received the first dose of vaccination and the health department has been asked to speed up the process further.''
