Meerut: There has been a demand for changing the name of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh to Pandit Nathuram Godse Nagar for a long time. Similarly, several proposals have been received to change the name of Ghaziabad and Muzaffarnagar. In order to address the constantly rising demand, now the Revenue Department of UP Government has asked the District Magistrates of all the three districts for immediate reply in this regard.

According to the letter written by the Revenue Department to the District Magistrates, in the State Government's Integrated Grievance Redressal System, there is a matter of changing the name of Hapur to Mahant Avaidyanath Nagar and Ghaziabad as Mahant Digvijay Nagar. According to sources, the Hapur district administration has rejected CM Yogi Adityanath's request to change the name of the district after Guru Avaidyanath. However, the letter does not mention what name has been sought for Muzaffarnagar.

Reminder has been sent to the three District Magistrates in this regard three times in the last four months. This has also increased the concern of the district administration. Revenue department officials say that they need to settle the matter (demand for change of name by people or organizations) within the time limit.
